The Woodbridge man went to the big-box retailer's parking lot to negotiate the sale of prescription pills, police said.
LINDEN -- A Woodbridge man was robbed Wednesday when a drug deal in a Sam's Club parking lot went wrong, police said.
The 36-year-old man told police around 2:30 p.m. that he had gone to the big-box retailer on East Linden Avenue to meet someone to negotiate the sale of prescription pills, Capt. James Sarnicki said.
When the victim met the man, the man entered the victim's vehicle and pulled out a handgun, Sarnicki said. He said a black sedan, occupied by two other men, simultaneously pulled up behind them.
One of the men in the black sedan exited and began to assault the victim, according to Sarnicki.
He said the suspects took cash, a cell phone and the prescription pills from the victim before they fled south on Routes 1&9 in the sedan.
The man whom the victim initially met in the parking lot is described as a 6-foot-1, dark-skinned male with a thin build, dreadlocks and a black beard, Sarnicki said.
The victim declined medical attention, according to Sarnicki.
