Police say two men with their faces covered had a handgun and a knife.
NEW BRUNSWICK -- University police say that the convenience store next to the Rutgers University Police Department on Commercial Avenue was robbed Sunday night.
Two suspects demanded money from a Park Convenience Store employee after showing a handgun and a knife, police said. They both fled after someone entered the store during the robbery, police said.
Nobody was physically injured in the robbery, police said. New Brunswick police as well as Rutgers University police are investigating the incident. Authorities did not say whether the suspects made off with any money or goods.
The incident comes amid a spate of robberies that have prompted an increased police presence at the state university's flagship campus.
One suspect was wearing a mask, and the other had a gray hoodie covering his face.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact the New Brunswick Police Department at (732) 745-5712 or Rutgers detectives at (848) 932-8025.
