SOUTH BRUNSWICK -- Police said a man with limited mobility was killed in a fire that has been ruled accidental.

John Doran, 59, lived at 27 Deerberry Lane, where a fire broke out Friday afternoon.

A cause of death has not yet been established. Doran had several medical conditions, police said.

A family member of Doran was not home at the time of the fire, police said. When firefighters arrived at 2:45 p.m., the fire had been burning "for some time," according to police. It was quickly extinguished.

Residents were allowed back into their homes at 7 p.m., after the units were ventilated for carbon monoxide.

The Middlesex County fire marshal's office, the South Brunswick fire marshal, and the Middlesex County prosecutor's office have determined that the fire was accidental, according to township police.
