The kids were honored for their good works in the community.
SOUTH BRUNSWICK -- A group of township police officers helped escort 10 local kids down the aisles of Target on a shopping spree to honor their good works.
The kids, form elementary school to high school, were picked from a pool of 9,000 nominations. They stood out, the police said, by doing the following:
- "Helping autistic kids in the classroom and on the playground
- Helping kindergartners learn to read or volunteering to tutor other students
- Raising money for kids with cancer at Children's Hospital Of Philadelphia
- Working in a soup kitchen and helping with food drives
- Promoting breast cancer awareness
- Raising money for the treatment of Ebola patients in Africa
- Promoting the Circle of Sisters
- Promoting Autism awareness"
Each one got gift certificates, plus their own personal escort through the Route 1 store. They'll also get a framed certificate.
The kids that were honored were: Eric Robinson, Darren Olsen, Sanjana Kowshik, Jake Graci, Madison Bachmann, Megan Sidoti, Irene Chiotis, Katelyn O'Rourke, Alan Shivey-Wells, and Gabriella Tuzzolino. They were escorted by the following officers, respectively: Detective Jairdullo, Officer Flanders, Patrolman Merkler, Patrolman Benbow, Patrolman Sites, Patrolman First Class DeProssimo, Patrolman Hallman, Detective Shearer, Patrolman Gassman, and Patrolman Moreira.
