A Chevy Malibu hit the back of a Ford Escort traveling in the center lane, causing the Escort to lose control and strike a left-side guardrail, Williams said.
Milagro Aceituno, 21, of Baltimore, was sitting in the rear, center passenger seat of the Escort at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle, according to Williams. Aceituno was then hit by a Mercury Sable, Williams said.
Aceituno was pronounced dead just after 10:30 p.m.
Five other people were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The cause of the accident is under investigation and no charges have been filed, Williams said.
