The 23-acre lot contains 43,000 cars
CARTERET -- Dozens of vehicles caught fire at a junkyard in Carteret this morning, according to reports.
No one was hurt in a fire that broke out just after 2 a.m. at Insurance Auto Auctions on Federal Boulevard in the borough, MyCentralJersey.com reported. Foam was used to extinguish the fire, which spread to 82 vehicles.
The vehicles were stacked three high in the 23-acre lot, PIX11.com reported. The lot contains about 43,000 vehicles.
It's the third fire there since 1997, the television station said.
Officials are trying to determine how it started.
