It was time for everyone to pull out their shovels.
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow! Well, not so much in New Jersey yet this winter.
In fact, the Garden State's first "winter storm" of the 2015-2016 season left a paltry 1.2 inches of snow in just one Sussex County community. From Passaic to Mercer counties, the white stuff on Dec. 29 ranged from less than a half-inch in one borough to a trace, with mixed rain and sleet, in another municipality.
We're accustomed to so much more, including a 2011 storm that dropped as much as 19 inches of snow on parts of New Jersey just before Halloween.
This 1950s photo of a station wagon stopped across a snow-filled road is a scene that New Jerseyans are familiar with during the months of January, February and March.
On Jan. 7, this picture and other photos of snowy scenes in New Jersey will be appear as part of "Vintage photos of winter in N.J." on nj.com.
