The designation is aimed at populations who don't have enough protection from the cold.
NEW BRUNSWICK -- People without enough protection from the cold can go to Elijah's Promise soup kitchen at 18 Neilson St. in the coming hours after city officials called for a "code blue."
The designation is declared during temperatures of 20 degrees or below, which could endanger people who don't have enough shelter. The Elijah's Promise soup kitchen will be open for extended hours between 7 p.m. Monday through 7 a.m. Wednesday, city officials said.
PLUS: Get ready for single-digit wind chills
Highs on Monday will only reach the low 30s, and with the wind chill it will feel much colder. The dip in temperatures comes after a historically warm December.
