The fire was first reported at about 3 p.m. Tuesday.
SOUTH RIVER -- Borough police said that people who want to help a local family whose house was damaged by a fire Tuesday can drop off clothing at 12 Clark St.
The residents who've been displaced are between 5 years old and adults, police said.
Police received a call about the fire at 3:32 p.m. Tuesday. When they got there, they found flames shooting from the multi-family home.

One person was home at the time, and escaped from the fire safely, police said.
The blaze took several hours to extinguish, and tied up traffic in the area for several hours.
Nobody was hurt in the blaze, police said.
