NEW BRUNSWICK -- A Piscataway man is now charged with death by auto in connection with the death of a 6-year-old boy who was killed while walking on a sidewalk with his mother in Highland Park Saturday afternoon.
Shang Zhen Huang, 21, was originally charged with two counts of aggravated assault after authorities said a 2013 Lexus heading northbound on Raritan Avenue (Route 27) jumped the curb and struck the child and his mother.
The new, more serious charge was filed Wednesday afternoon by the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.

The child, identified as Chaim Kraus, and his mother, 37, whose identity has been withheld, were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where the boy was pronounced dead at 3:39 p.m., according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey.
Carey said Sunday the mother was in critical condition, but no update on her condition has been released.
Huang has been held in the Middlesex County jail in lieu of $200,000 since Saturday.
