NEW BRUNSWICK -- Vito Nigro pleaded not guilty Friday afternoon to beating his wife to death six months ago in their Colonia home.
Nigro, 42, was charged with murder shortly after Giorgina Cimino Nigro's body was found in the couple's home at 41 Devon Road in Woodbridge on July 22, but Nigro jumped off a bridge on the Garden State Parkway in Woodbridge hours after he allegedly killed her and was not able to appear in court.
He has been undergoing treatment for broken bones and other injuries suffered in the jump since then.
Nigro walked into the courtroom without assistance Friday afternoon and had nothing to say to the judge. His attorney, Howard Barman, entered his not guilty plea.

Authorities said Giorgina Nigro, 32, was bludgeoned as she slept on the sofa.
The couple had three young children who have been in the custody of both sets of grandparents.
The couple divorced in 2009 with Giorgina Nigro accusing her husband of physically abusing her and Vito Nigro accusing his wife of theft and adultery.
Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Kirsten Fochtman confirmed to the judge that Nigro's bail is set at $750,000.
