The Yin family in Kendall Park got snowed in. Watch video
KENDALL PARK -- Shawn and Helen Yin were at their house on Inverness Drive in Kendall Park on Saturday, waiting out the historic blizzard just like everybody else.
But when they tried to open their door Saturday night, they were greeted by a wall of snow.
They've got the pictures to prove it, with imprints from the door in the giant mound blocking their way. They were, quite literally, snowed in. It's no wonder, then, that many school districts around the state are calling off class.
"It's so real," Helen Yin told an initially incredulous reporter.
Indeed, Yin sent an array of photos to show not only that it happened, but how it happened. It's likely, Yin said, that the shape of their house conspired with the snow drifts and wind to block the door.
The Yins called their property manager Saturday night for help, but given the treacherous conditions, that help didn't arrive until early Sunday morning. (They were still able to leave via the garage door, but it was still unsettling, Helen Yin said.)
They'd noticed throughout the day on Saturday the pile of snow slowly inch up the door. (You can see how much snow the Yins and everyone else got by clicking here. Cranbury, which is near Kendall Park, got 17 inches.) By the time night fell, it had reached the top. They've sent photographs to their disbelieving families, and everyone reacts with awe.
"We were so amazed yesterday, and then later, I sent it to my family," she said. "We couldn't believe it."
