MIDDLESEX COUNTY -- The heavy snow closed roads and brought down trees and power lines in some towns in Middlesex County Friday morning, leaving hundreds without power, but by late morning, the roads were reopened and power was restored.

There were 600 customers of Public Service Electric & Gas Co. (PSE&G) without power in Woodbridge when a tree came down, according to spokeswoman Lindsey Puliti.

Puliti said crews went out and power was restored to all of the customers by 10:30 a.m.

Police in Edison, South Brunswick and East Brunswick reported roads temporarily closed due to downed trees, but crews had the roads open by late morning.

"Friendship Road at Route 130 closed when heavy branches fell on wires," said Capt. Jim Ryan of the South Brunswick Police Department.

Ryan said it reopened by late morning.

In East Brunswick, Church Lane closed temporarily due to a fallen tree and in Edison, tree branches on the road temporarily closed Woodland Avenue.

Police throughout the county gave a sigh of relief when the storm passed and the sun came out.

"Now, it can melt in time for the next storm next week," Ryan said.
