NORTH BRUNSWICK TWP. -- Route 27 near Omaha Road is opened, as police removed the tree that was downed from Wednesday night's rainstorm.

Police, who initially thought the tree might not be remove until Thursday morning, were able to remove it last night.

Officials said they are not experiencing any other traffic issues in the township.

However, motorists traveling in surrounding towns haven't been so lucky. The New Brunswick Police Department said in a statement that the "city is experiencing power outages along Jersey Avenue from Handy Street to How Lane."

"There are also traffic signals out along French Street at the intersections of Handy Street, Suydam Street and Joyce Kilmer Avenue," the statement said.

In addition, Patterson Street -- between George Street and Elm Road -- is closed.

Authorities said in a statement that vehicular traffic should prepare for delays and detours.

In Piscataway Township, the intersection of Sidney and South Randolphville roads has been opened, and in South Brunswick, at Route 130 South and Friendship Road, all lanes are now open.
