Vishal Shah, 20, charged with killing his father, called 911 to report he was in bed, "with blood all around" and wouldn't get up.
SAYREVILLE -- A 20-year-old borough man called 911, telling the dispatcher his younger brother found his father unresponsive in bed the morning of June 10 and asked for an ambulance and police to come to their apartment.
"I was at work," Vishal Shah," told the emergency dispatcher in the recording, released Tuesday by the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office at the request of N.J. Advance Media. "My brother found my father in bed. There's blood around."
He said his father, Pradipkum Shah, 53, "won't wake up."
Pradipkum Shah was pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick on June 11, 2016 at 6:25 a.m.
Vishal Shah was charged June 12 with his father's murder. He is also charged with hindering his own apprehension by hiding the gun that was used in the shooting and unlawful possession of the weapon, a .25 caliber handgun.
Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey said the weapon has been found.
Shah has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
He is being held in the Middlesex County jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
Neighbors said the family was very quiet.
"The dad was always very nice," said a neighbor at Brooklawn Gardens apartments who did not want to be identified. "Very submissive, very gentle. He would say hello, hi to everybody. We don't know much about the boy."
She said the son "seems like a very normal person."
"We never heard anything from the house -- any kind of fighting, any argument with each other," she said. "We never heard anything like that."
