Amazon says its two new fulfillment centers in New Jersey are open and churning out orders for the holiday.
After opening two new facilities in the state in the last few months, Amazon now has five fulfillment centers in New Jersey working to bring holiday packages.
The company assured that deliveries would arrive on time after concerns a recent strike by airline cargo pilots who haul packages for Amazon might hold up holiday deliveries throughout the country.
Those fears were lifted, however, when a federal judge in Cincinnati, Ohio, last week ordered the striking pilots back to work, according to a report by The Associated Press.
In mid-September, Amazon opened a new, 600,000-square-foot fulfillment center in Florence, Burlington County, which will "serve customers in the greater Trenton area with even faster delivery times and even better inventory selection," said Amazon spokeswoman Lauren Lynch in an email.
In August, the company opened a fulfillment center in Carteret, Middlesex County, making it the second Amazon warehouse in the borough.
The company said earlier this year that it expected the new facilities to bring more than 2,000 jobs to New Jersey. At that time, the company already supplied more than 5,500 full-time jobs in the state.
"The facilities are now open and fulfilling customer orders for the holidays," Lynch said.
Amazon told NJ Advance Media that it had adjusted the number of its carrier partners to ensure shipments arrived on time.
"We rebalanced capacity across our network of carrier partners to ensure there are no disruptions through the busy holiday weekend and plan to leave these adjustments in place," said Amazon spokeswoman Kelly Cheeseman in an email.
Pilots from Air Transport Services Group Inc. were striking over staffing shortages that union representatives said were putting a strain on them and their families to meet Amazon's shipping demands, The Associated Press reported.
Amazon said it is continuing to hire employees for its newest New Jersey facilities.
