PLAINFIELD -- Two men face drug and weapons charges after Union County police officers stopped their car for motor vehicle violations and discovered marijuana, heroin and a handgun, authorities said Tuesday.

Troy White, 31, of Piscataway, Francis Lockley, 27, of Plainfield, were arrested Jan. 5 after police stopped their car on West Second Street, county authorities said.

They said Union County police Detective Dino Capra and Joseph Ferraioii smelled and saw marijuana in the vehicle.

After a brief investigation, the detectives found 23 packets of heroin, and a .40 caliber handgun loaded with hollow-point bullets, authorities said.

Lockley and White each face several drug charges as well as weapons offenses.

Both men were taken to the Union County jail pending a court hearing.
