The family moved into a home in the Millington section of Long Hill about one month ago
LONG HILL-- A family moving into a new home in the Millington section of the township says their belongings are being held hostage after the moving truck hauling their stuff crashed, CBS News reported.
The moving company picked up the belongings of Tina Fortino and her family, but never delivered them, CBS reported.
Instead, police reportedly told the family five days later the moving truck was involved in a crash on the New Jersey Turnpike and their belongings were scattered across the highway.
The damaged moving truck was then towed to B&L Recovery and Towing in Carteret, but Fortino told CBS the owner demanded $10,000 from the family to retrieve their belongings.
B&L's owner told CBS News he didn't ask for the Fortinos to pay, but said he is waiting for the moving company to file an insurance claim before releasing the property.
