SOUTH BRUNSWICK -- One person was found dead inside a unit of a condominium complex where a fire broke out Friday afternoon, Chief Chris Perez of the Kendall Park Fire Department said.

Firefighters responded to a report of a smell of smoke at 27 Deerberry Lane around 2:45 p.m., Perez said. Firefighters fanned out looking for the source until Perez saw smoke and a blacked-out window at one of the units.

The fire appears to have been concentrated in the living area of the home, which is also where the victim was found. He did not have any information on the identity of the victim.

None of the other approximately 10 units were damaged, although the complex was briefly evacuated due to a carbon monoxide condition.

The fire is under investigation by South Brunswick police, the fire marshal and the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.
