The average Middlesex County tax bill has jumped about 36 percent since 2000. Watch video
Residents in Cranbury paid the highest average property tax bill of $11,446 for 2015, according to the latest statewide data.
The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs recently released data showing the average tax bills for municipalities statewide while comparing the numbers to previous years.
The average property tax bill in the county in 2015 was $7,725 - a 2.4-percent rise from $7,541 the previous year, according to new statewide data.
Last year, the statewide average property tax bill increased by $191 from $8,161 in 2014 to $8,353 in 2015. It was a 2.4-percent rise, which was the fastest rate of increase since 2011.
In Middlesex County, the average tax property bill has increased about 36 percent since 2000. The county ranked 12th of the 21 counties in the average percentage increase in property taxes between 2014 and 2015.
In that time, Monroe Township has seen the largest spike in the county with a roughly 57-percent increase.

Monroe Township Mayor Gerald W. Tamburro attributed this rise to the a court-mandated reevaluation that went into effect two years ago.
"That dramatically increased some of the older homes' assessed value," he said, "and (also) newer homes built during the depressed market."
Meanwhile, Carteret Borough has had the lowest rate of increase, rising only about 18 percent since 2000.
